January 2008 Trail Conditions Archive January 31, 2008 - Trail Update Just received a call from a Member Rider, heading toward Manton. He reported excellent conditions on the Trail from Lake City to Rhoby Rd. He will update us along the trail via cel phone. Update: Trail is in excellent condition from Lake City all the way to the Iron Bridge in Manton, over the Manistee River. Ride Safe! - Ron Loveland Jr.
January 31, 2008 - Trail Update Riders are reporting fair to poor trails today. Several areas have lost snow due to the high winds and are down to an ice base. Please be careful when riding. Slow down and use extra caution in the corners. A big snow storm is forecasted for tonight and Friday. Think SNOW! Ride Safe and See You on The Trail! - Ron Loveland Jr.
January 30, 2008 - Trail Update A snowstorm blew through last night, dumping an easy 3" - 5" of fresh snow. High winds caused major drifting. Actual trail conditions are unknown, other than there is no base and fresh drifted snow on the trail. Please use caution while riding our trails. We will need a couple of days of snowmobile traffic on the trail to re-establish a packed base, before we resume grooming. Also, if you see any downed trees on the trail, please email Diane Loveland at dianel@mardexconsulting.com so we can get out to that area and remove the obstruction. Ride Safe, and See You on The Trail. - Ron Loveland Jr. January 28, 2008 - Trail Update As forecasted, the rain is here. Warm temperatures have everything melting and in a state of slush. Trails are looking pretty bad, several spots are down to dirt. The rain is soaking in, making everything wet and nasty. Please be kind to your snowmobile and to our trails. Refrain from riding until we get some more snow and can get the trails groomed again. - Ron Loveland Jr.
January 28, 2008 - Trail Update I groomed Saturday and Sunday on the Trail to Moorestown. The base of our trail is getting a little thin. We need more snow. The trails were in much better shape when I started Sunday Night than they were when I started Saturday Night. Trails overall are in excellent condition. There is rain and warm temperatures forecasted for the next couple of days. It should not hurt the trails to much, if traffic is kept to a minimum. A SNOW STORM is forecasted for later in the week. Lets all Snow Dance! Ride Safe and See You on The Trail. - Ron Loveland Jr.
January 26, 2008 - Trail Update We spoke with some snowmobilers today at the Coffee Cup in Lake City. They said the trails were pretty good towards Moorestown, but were better towards Manton. The groomers ran last night and will run every night this weekend. Please watch out for them on the trail. Remember, YOU have to move for the groomer. It can not back up and will not move for you. Thank You. Happy Trails and Ride Safe. - Ron Loveland Jr.
January 24, 2008 - Trail Update The trails were excellent today. The Missaukee Trail Blazers Brushing Crew went out today and reported great conditions from Lake City to the "T" and on over to 7 Mile Road. The groomers are scheduled to run tomorrow, and will run all weekend in anticipation of heavy snowmobile traffic from Tip Up Town. Cold temperatures have kept the trail in great shape. Ride Safe. - Ron Loveland Jr.
January 21, 2008 - Grooming / Trail Update The Club ran both groomers last night. The snow was pretty good. The trails were beat up when we started, now they are smooth. Several corners were taken down to the dirt, but there was enough snow on the trail to fill them back in. Think Snow! Ride Safe. - Ron Loveland Jr.
January 20, 2008 - Grooming / Trail Update The trails should be perfect today. Both groomers ran again last night. -5 Deg. F was the average temperature, so the trail should have got a good freeze. Groomers are running again tonight, so watch out for them on the trail. We need more snow, so all you snow dancers, get dancing! Ride Safe, See you on The Trail. - Ron Loveland Jr. January 19, 2008 - Trail Update We rode the trails today and they were in pretty good shape on the morning run. The further North we rode the worse the trails became. Heavy traffic from Tip Up Town has had an effect on our trails. We probably saw 500 sleds today, between Lake City and Kalkaska. The ride home, yesterday evening, was pretty bumpy. Both groomers are running this evening, so watch out for them. Be Careful, Ride Safe. - Ron Loveland Jr. January 18, 2008 - Trail Update The trails were great today. I rode from Kalkaska to Moorestown and it was smooth sailing. That last leg into Moorestown was bumpy, sure wish the groomers hit that trail! The groomers are running this evening, so as always, please watch out for them. Trail reports came in around 10:00PM from the groomer operators. Trail conditions are excellent, with lots of new snow on the trail. The wind has drifted snow into the trail, adding to the groomers load. This adds fresh snow to the trail and creates a better finish overall. Temperatures are dropping to the single digits overnight so the trail should be excellent for Saturday. If you are going to ride this weekend, put on an extra layer of clothing! It will be cold, and with the wind chill factor, even colder! One final note. Tip Up Town is this weekend and next weekend. This event will add extra traffic on the snowmobile trails. Please use extra caution these next couple of weekends as trails may be congested. Ride Safe, Dress Warm, See You on the Trail! - Ron Loveland Jr.
January 16, 2008 - Trail Update Both groomers ran this evening. Trails are as smoooooth as ever. A snow storm is forecasted for Thursday night and Friday morning. We could receive up to 4" of fresh snow! Even more predicted throughout the weekend. Think SNOW! Ride Safe! See You on The Trail! - Ron Loveland Jr.
January 15, 2008 - Trail Update The snow has let up and the trail is doing extremely well. I checked several spots on the trail today and they all looked GREAT! There is plenty of snow and conditions are only going to get better. Be Safe and we'll see you on the trail. - Ron Loveland Jr.
January 14, 2008 - Snow / Grooming Update The snow is still falling. Both groomers have been out and are now back in. The operators reported excellent trail conditions. The temperature is around 23 Deg. so the trails should get a good freeze overnight. Trail conditions will be excellent in the morning. Think SNOW! Ride Safe!
January 14, 2008 - Snow / Grooming Update The snow continues to fall as forecasted. We have already received 4"- 8" of fresh snow since last night. The groomers will be running this afternoon, so please be alert and watch out for them on the trail. Snow is still forecasted for the next several days and temperatures are starting to fall. This will give us ideal riding conditions for the weekend. See You on The Trail, and as always, Ride Safe. - Ron Loveland Jr.
January 13, 2008 - Grooming Update We continue to receive snow every day now. The forecast says we will get more snow every day for at least the next week. Trail traffic was moderate yesterday and it looks like the sleds are packing a nice base for our grooming operations. Due to temperature, we were not able to groom last night. We will be back to grooming as soon as conditions allow. Thank you, M.T.B.
January 11, 2008 - Grooming Update The snow we received last night is very wet. Normally this is good, but with no base the wet snow will just load up the groomer and we will accomplish nothing. Once the trails have had a little traffic and the snow that is on the trail gets packed a little, we will be back to grooming. Ride safe and see you on the trails. Ron Loveland Jr.
January 11, 2008 - Trail Update We received 4" to 6" of new snow last night. Temperatures are holding just below freezing. It is just like starting over fresh for the season. We need more snow to have good trail conditions. Be safe and see THINK SNOW!!! - Ron Loveland Jr.
January 7, 2008 - Trail Update There is no snow left on the Miss-Kal trail in Missaukee County. The rain has made a wet, icy slush that is almost down to the dirt and is dirt and mud in most places.
January 6, 2008 - Trail Update Over 75% of the trail is DIRT!!! Trails are poor for snowmobile riding. Please be kind to your machine and our trails. Plus a dense fog has blanketed the area. Visibility is very poor making trail riding dangerous. Until we get a good snow, snowmobiling is not recommended on the Miss-Kal Trail.
January 5, 2008 - Trail Update A warm up has halted grooming and has about destroyed the trail. The groomers ran last night, but it was barely cold enough to pack the snow. High snowmobile traffic last night also deteriorated the finish put down by the groomers. The Missaukee Trail Blazers would ask that you stay off the trails until freezing temperatures return.
January 4, 2008 - Trail Update I have not had a chance to go riding this week, but everyone tells me the trails are still in great shape. Last night a rider told me the Al Moses spur was getting a little choppy. The groomers are going to run this afternoon, in anticipation of the warm up and rain that is forecasted for our area this weekend. We are attempting to protect the trail by giving it a hard pack groom this evening. We would ask riders to stay off the trails during the warm and rainy days, so as to not destroy our base and mix dirt in with the remaining snow!!!! Thank you for your patience. If everyone follows our request, the trail will not be destroyed during the rain and we should all be riding again, next week. - Ron Loveland Jr.
January 1, 2008 - Trail Update We rode the trails today and they were beautiful. We have been on several trail systems to the North and East and they are all GREAT too! Seems like all of the trails in our area are in better shape than they have ever been! Thank You to all the Groomer Operators who keep our trails smooooooooth! - Ron & Diane Loveland & Bill & Melanie Morey
