Lots of SNOW on January 15, 2008

03/03/08 - Groomers Workshop in Munising was GREAT!

The MSA put on a Groomers Workshop in Munising Michigan this past weekend.  Several tractor dealers and drag manufacturers were on site to give the Operators and Clubs hands on demos of the equipment present.  The MSA discussed our current situation with the State and addressed our most current needs as a Grooming Club.  More information will be provided at this months meeting.

02/25/08 - Groomer 1 Getting Ready To Come Home!

The Ford New Holland Tractor has been in the shop for a couple of weeks now.  A couple of gears turned up with missing teeth and had to be replaced.  We are still waiting on one gasket to finish the job.  Hopefully it will be in on Monday and we can go and pick up the tractor.  Repairs costs were high, so if you can spare a couple of dollars, drop them in a donation box at one of our commercial members around town.  We will continue to provide you with a safe, groomed trail system in Missaukee County.  Thank You.

02/25/08 - First Newsletter Mailed Today!

The first issue of the Missaukee Trail Blazers "SNOW NEWS GAZETTE" was mailed to all of the members as of today.  149 members in all!  The newsletter contains important information regarding our elections in April.  Also, for your convenience, we have included a membership renewal form in the newsletter.  If you haven't renewed your membership, now is a great time to do it.  Remember, you have to be renewed before the April Elections to Vote!

02/11/08 - Groomer 1 Off for Repair

Our Ford New Holland has developed some trouble and is at the shop for repair.  It is not currently known what is exactly wrong, but it could be a bearing in the drive train.  Check back for updates and how this will effect our grooming schedule.

02/10/08 - Marty Jankowski DONATES Chain Saw to Club

A much needed chain saw was donated to the Missaukee Trail Blazers by Marty Jankowski, owner of Marty's Pizza & Grill in Lake City.  The saw will be used in the Winter by Groomer Operators who encounter trees on the trail and in the Summer / Fall months by our Trail Brushing Team.  A big thanks to Marty for his kind generosity.  By the way, Marty's now makes EXCELLENT Meatball Subs and Tamales!  Perfect for lunch before a long snowmobile ride.

01/29/08 - 1st Annual Hot Dog Roast Pictures on The Web!

At the 1st Annual Hot Dog Roast, Ron Loveland took 82 pictures from start to finish.  Our photo gallery has been updated, and now includes these pictures.  Ron Loveland is accepting snowmobile related pictures for our web site.  View the Photo Gallery for more information!

01/28/08 - Rain / Warm Weather Wrecks Trail

The forecasted rain and the high temperatures have made slush out of our trails.  Several areas are down to dirt and the rest looks like a trail made of snow cone ice!  Yuck!  We need to get snow dancing!  Please be kind to your snowmobile and our trails, don't ride until conditions improve!  Thank You, M.T.B.

01/28/08 - Elections Coming Soon

The Missaukee Trail Blazers will be holding Officer and Trustee Elections at the April Meeting.  If you would like to be a part of the election process, you membership must be renewed by April 1st, 2008.  Also you will want to be at the next (3) meetings, as the process for elections will take that long.

01/21/08 - January Meeting Brings GREAT News!

The January Meeting at the Hollywood Bar had a nice turnout.  Several new Memberships were taken, bringing us over 125 members!  The treasurer brought the good news that we are running in the black.  Expenses are high, but the State is releasing payments to the Club.

The Club is starting to get "noticed" by Local and State Officials as well as The M.S.A.  Trail reports are pouring in, "Best Trails EVER!", "Keep Up The Good Work".  The County Park has opened the boat launch parking area for snowmobile staging.  The City Council is helping us get a safe trail into Lake City.  Things are really moving!

Elections are coming up at the April Meeting for Board Members.  Nominations have to be in by the March Meeting.  A Club Mailing will go out before the next meeting to all members, discussing the elections.

01/20/08 - First Annual Hot Dog Picnic was a BLAST!

Frigid temperatures didn't stop the First Annual Hot Dog Picnic.  Over 15 machines left from Bill & Melanie Morey's home and several more from Jim & Kaye Leeuw's place.  We rode North to the CCC Bridge on the Manistee River.  Melanie Morey, Kaye Leeuw and Diane Loveland met us there, already had the fire going and all of the fixin's ready.  Marty's Pizza & Grill donated all of the Hot Dogs and buns.  Marty also donated his World Famous, Award Winning Chili for the after party at Jim & Kaye Leeuw's.  The ride was excellent, the party was great and a good time was had by all!  Check the Photo Gallery for pictures of the event! - Ron Loveland Jr.

01/18/08 - Lake City Opens Snowmobile Staging Area

The County Parks System has opened the "Lagoon" boat launch parking area as a Snowmobile Staging Area.  It is at the corner of Broadway and Al Moses Road, making it just a mile or so away from the start of the Snowmobile Trail.

01/15/08 - Missaukee Trail Blazers Meet with Lake City's City Council

Ron Loveland and Bill Morey attended Lake City's City Council meeting Monday night.  They were called on the agenda to be heard by the Council and requested the help of the Council in establishing a safe route into town as well as a loop through town and eventually back to the Snowmobile Trail.  Economic benefits as well as citizen concerns were addressed at the meeting.  The Council agreed unanimously to help our Club.  There is more work to be done at this point.  Come to the meeting to hear more about our trail expansion plan.   -  Ron Loveland Jr.

01/15/08 - Snow Storm Wraps Around Michigan: Lots Of Snow!!!

Snow storms and wrap around Lake Effect have dumped lots of SNOW on our trails.  Groomers ran last night and the reports coming in, say the trails are in excellent condition.  Snow is expected to continue through the weekend and will create ideal riding conditions for this weekend!!!  See You On The Trail!!! -  Ron Loveland Jr.

01/06/08 - Warm Weather Wipes Out Trail!

The warm weather, rain and fog have all but wiped out the trails in Missaukee County.  Well over 75% of our trails are down to dirt, with mud and water pools forming.  Riding conditions are dangerous due to dense fog in the area and wet ice conditions where the trail has not melted down to the dirt.  Please be courteous to your snowmobile and to our trails and refrain from riding until temperatures return to freezing and we get a good snow.  Thank You, The Missaukee Trail Blazers

01/05/08 - CASE Tractor / Groomer Repair Update

Bill, Stan and Ron met at Dean Sloat's home today and worked on the electrical system and the seat in the CASE Tractor.  It was a long day and everyone took care of the task at hand.  Stan reworked the seat in the Tractor, which was broken, but is now fixed.  Probably saved us $500-$1000 for a new seat.  Dean fab'ed a new power feed and fuse block to run all of the new lights we added to the groomer sled.  Bill & Ron rewired the groomer sled and added the necessary wires to run the new strobe lights.  A special thank you to Mrs. Sloat who allowed us into her home and fed us a wonderful lunch.  Thanks to Dean for the use of his garage, parts, equipment and especially his brain!

01/04/08 - Groomer Meeting Update

A groomer operator meeting was called for Jan 03, 2008.  We had a great turnout and lots of information was shared amongst the groomer operators.  Questions were answered, concerns were addressed.  In the end, we all walked away with new information to help us groom the trails.  Melanie Morey and Diane Loveland made snacks and munchies for the meeting.  Thank You, you Two, for all of your help behind the scenes.  It is greatly appreciated.  The groomers are going out tonight in an attempt to save our snow from an upcoming warmup.  See the trail reports for latest trail conditions and information.

01/01/08 - Happy New Year!

Another Year has come and gone, this time with The Missaukee Trail Blazers on the Radar!  We have all worked hard to make this club strong.  Over 100 members in less than a year, massive trail clean-up and signing in weeks and groomers running on December 1st.  Our meeting turnout grows monthly.  Friendships have been forged with a common interest in quality snowmobile riding.  We are The Missaukee Trail Blazers!  Join us in 2008 to help promote snowmobile riding in Northern Michigan and to care for the 50+ miles of snowmobile trails we have to offer in Missaukee County.
